Hello Julian.
I was reading this article too and thought how amusing it is that subjects like "happiness", which have been around forever and which everybody has some knowledge about suddenly become "institutionalized' because the scientific establishment decides to put it on the agenda.
Thanks for adding me to your blogroll - come by and visit Bloggers Parliament too, you might want to join?

The article - and possibly the book - seem to regurgitations of Eastern philosophy packaged for the West - much like I believe Erich Fromm's writings. That's not necessarily a bad thing.

(Thanks for blogrolling me so I could find this very interesting blog. The favour has been returned.)

Replying to Natalie, I think it is a sign of the times that themes like those finally make it onto the scientific agenda. One figures happiness is important enough that it should have already been there for a long time.
