!!Coaching: the GROW Model
The so-called GROW model was one of the earliest coaching models, initially expressed by [John Whitmore].
The acronym stands for:
Goals: What is the specific goal of this coaching session?
Reality: Where are you now?
Options: What choices do you have?
Will: Are you committed to taking action?
!In use
This model can be used at almost any time during a coaching intervention. It has the huge advantage of being very simple to remember for the coach, easily explained to the client and very rooted in creating pragmatic change.
Key success factors for the coach to remember:
* Wherever possible ask rather than tell
* Help the client articulate a clear, [SensoryBasedLangugage|sensory-based], description of the Goal.
* Help the client express how they will know when they have achived their Goal.
* In considering current Reality, help the client see the situation from multiple [PerceptualPositions "perspectives"].
* Think about how techniques such as [Reframing] can help the client expand the range of Options they consider.
* How can you help the client [NLPAnchor "anchor" ] their Willingness to change?
