"Moore's law - In 1965 [Gordon Moore] of Intel observed that the number of transistors that could be fabricated on one integrated circuit chip seemed to double every couple of years. That "law" has been empirically true for the last 40 years.
Often extended in tech speak to have the slightly different meaning of "The computing power available for a given price doubles every 18-24 months"
